Sgt. James A. Montoro

203rd Engineer Combat Battalion
Sgt. Montoro landed on Omaha Beach on the morning of June 6, 1944 as a member of the 203rd Engineer Combat Battalion attached to the 6th Engineer Special Brigade. Their job was to clear obstacles that were placed on the beach by the German Army to prevent an amphibious landing on the French coast. Sgt. Montoro not only survived the D-Day invasion but also served throughout the remainder of the War earning five battle stars in the process. He spoke very little about his wartime experiences. Below is a photo of James in 2000 wearing his "ike" jacket which now I'm grateful to say is part of my personal collection.
